Digital Textbook System Check

Before you start your coursework, verify that your computer and browser meet the requirements for the digital textbook (Edmentum Courseware) — and that you have the basic skills every online student needs.

What to check

Supported browser

Chrome is recommended. Keep it updated, and make sure cookies and JavaScript are enabled.

Connection speed

Confirm your internet meets the minimum speed requirements — lessons include video and audio.

[Pop-ups]

Pop-up blocker configured

Pop-up blockers must be disabled or configured for the digital textbook to run correctly — see below.

Webcam & microphone

Required for your Zoom meetings with your teacher. Test both before your first meeting.

Pop-up blockers

The digital textbook uses pop-ups to open lesson content. If activities are not opening when you click them, your pop-up blocker is the most likely reason. Check your browser settings and allow pop-ups from the digital textbook domain. Skills check: Can you do these five things?

Edmentum’s student guide lists the skills every online student is expected to have. Read each one — if any feels shaky, practice it this week or ask your parent or teacher for help:

  1. Use basic word processing software such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs
  2. Perform online research using search engines — and do your own work, with proper citation
  3. Download and upload file attachments to messages and assignments
  4. Communicate promptly with your teacher using the Message Center and alerts
  5. Participate respectfully in discussion boards, following proper netiquette

Fix issues before you start

If you run the check and something does not pass, contact your teacher immediately. Do not wait until your scheduled meeting — some issues take time to resolve and you do not want to lose coursework days.
